Valerie Miller is the Assistant Director at WBCDA. Valerie’s early training began at Bravo! Dance under the direction of Trinette Singleton and Lynne Mariani. She finished her pre-university studies at The Degnan Ballet Center under the Direction of Kristin Degnan (and founded by Barbara Weisberger). Valerie then attended and graduated from The Hartt School’s conservatory program at the University of Hartford in 2011 with a BFA in Dance; Ballet Pedagogy emphasis. While at The Hartt School, Valerie trained under professionals such as Hilda Morales, Susan Brooker, and Stephen Pier and had the opportunity to perform works by notable choreographers including Bournonville, Perrot, Pascal Rioult, Jose Limon, and Shannon Gillen. She completed her pedagogy training in partnership with The Hartt School Community Division under the guidance of Rosie Docal and Debra Collins-Ryder. Valerie performed as an apprentice with Full Force Dance Theater based in Hartford, CT under the direction of Katie Stevinson-Nollet during their 2010-2011 Season. Valerie taught ballet, jazz, modern, and hip-hop at various dance schools in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area from 2011-2013 before relocating to the Philadelphia area in 2014. She performed as a company member with Opus 1 Contemporary Dance in Philadelphia during the 2016-2017 season. Valerie believes that the discipline, self-autonomy, teamwork, and determination that students learn through dance provide a foundation of success for whatever direction life takes them.
